Our planning is started with the children using floor books and sharing ideas based on the children's interests. We record the main intended learning objectives in our medium term plans for each topic or theme. Click on the links under each topic heading to see how we link the children's ideas to the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.

Underwater Street

We have had a wonderful day out today! The children have been a credit to our school showing superb behaviour and wonderful manners, they have certainly done us proud. The Children enjoyed various activities such as making bath bombs, slime and fridge magnets and also enjoyed an excellent science workshop. Then we had a brilliant time in the imaginative play areas. Here are some pictures from our great day!

Camp Afternoon

We held the most wonderful afternoon for our parents and grandparents to come in and work with us. First, we made some beautiful patterns and pictures in the style of Andy Goldsworthy and then joined together for a barbecue, marshmallow toasting and songs around the camp fire.

Under the Sea

Under the Sea Medium Term Plan.doc

Some of the boys were desperate to learn about sharks, some of the girls wanted to learn about Ariel and mermaids and so our new topic 'Under the Sea' was born!

SUPERHEROES!!!

Superheroes and Fairies Medium Term Plan.doc

WE HAD A VERY PRODUCTIVE FEW WEEKS DURING OUR SUPERHERO TOPIC. WE STARTED BY READING A BOOK CALLED 'SUPERKID' AND THEN DESIGNED OUR OWN SUPERHEROES. WE THEN PLANNED AND WROTE SHORT STORIES ABOUT THEM, THINKING OF A PROBLEM THAT WOULD LINK TO THEIR SUPER POWER. WE ALSO ACTED OUT LOTS OF SUPERHERO PLOTS, MADE A SUPERHERO HIDEOUT, LEARNT OUR TRICKY WORDS IN 'FAIRY DUST' AND ENJOYED A LITTLE FAIRY GARDEN MADE BY MRS WALMSLEY. IN MATHS WE LEARNT THE CONCEPT OF DOUBLING USING A RANGE OF DIFFERENT METHODS. WE ALSO READ A BOOK CALLED 'SUPERTATO' WHICH GAVE US THE IDEA OF MAKING OUR OWN VEG HEROES!

Snuggling down with a book...

For World Book Day this year we decided to snuggle down in our pjs and read books. We enjoyed hot chocolates and were read to by each other, different adults and also listened to some audio books.

Pancake Day!

We learnt about Pancake Day and its official name, Shrove Tuesday. We talked about its tradition and links to the bible and then looked at how it is celebrated around the world. We found out some interesting facts, then of course made some pancakes to eat as well!

ARRRRGGHHHHHHH!!

 Pirates Medium Term Plan.doc

During our planning discussions the children chose a pirate theme. They thought of lots of ideas to transform our classroom and together we made lots of pirate activities. Miss Squibb  and Mrs Walmsley added some addition and subtraction with our treasure along with some estimating in the water. The children wrote messages in bottles and pirate writing and also enjoyed the story of The Night Pirates by Peter Harris.

 We are scientists!

On our Investigation Table this week we have started an experiment to show us the effects of throwing litter on the floor. We have chosen different pieces of litter including an apple core, a rubber glove and a crisp packet. We have buried them in compost and talked about how they may change over time. We have also learnt about thermometers and how they tell us if they are hot or cold. We are excited to see the similarities and differences over the rest of the year.

The Theatre

The children got really into the acting out of the traditional tales we looked at. Both boys and girls set up a 'show' and worked together to organise all the areas of a show! We decided to learn about theatres and made our own theatre production. With a little help from us adults, the children designed and sold tickets, made posters, added music and sound effects, made refreshments and worked together to make a performance for us to watch. They had such good fun and so many learning opportunities. The children even decided to do a Chinese Dragon showing in honour of Chinese New Year!

 Gymnastics

We have a great time learning skills like balancing and moving our bodies in certain ways with our PE coach Nikki

Run, run, as fast as you can, you cant catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man!!

We retold the story of the Gingerbread Man by drawing a story map and then acting it out, this led to us knowing the story really well and helped us to produce some super writing of our own!

Our forest for the Gingerbread Man to run through, the children decided what they wanted to make and with the help of the adults they quickly created a beautiful forest with a Gingerbread Man tree!!

and of course, we made gingerbread!

Festive Fun...

We had a wonderful time at the Infant Christmas Party with a very special guest ; )

CHILDREN IN NEED

We dressed up in our pyjamas to raise money for children in need. We learnt about the charity itself and talked about children who were less fortunate than us and where our money was going. As we had such a comfy day in our pjs it was only right to snuggle up in blankets, read stories and drink hot chocolate - yum!

Keeping Healthy

We did a simple science experiment to show us the importance of washing our hands. We passed around a piece of bread after playing all morning and not washing our hands, then learn how to wash our hands properly and passed around another piece, we left them over half term and came back to quite dramatic results!

Our Puppy Play Date!

Laila's pet Alsatian's had puppies!! Her Mummy and Daddy brought 5 of them to play with us at school and we learnt about how they grew, what they ate and how to care for them. We had such a wonderful time it took us into a lovely topic about caring for animals...

Bonfires!

We had a REAL bonfire in the woods!!! We talked about sounds, smell and heat and toasted yummy marshmallows to eat! We also learnt about bonfire safety and the story of The Gunpowder Plot.

Restaurants and Pumpkin Fun!

The children sparked a huge interest in restaurants from a book they looked at during their guided reading. We came up with ideas together about making our own restaurant indoors and out, learning to prepare food, chopping, mixing and weighing. We also learnt about food hygiene and did a science experiment on how bacteria stays on our hands if we don't wash them. We have had SO much fun! Enjoy...

 Autumn Days

We went into the school woods and collected signs of Autumn for our small world play in the classroom.

 Counting accurately with lovely acorns!

Today we made our own play dough and now have the skills to make it ourselves during our independent learning time and without adult help!

Space

Space Medium Term Plans.doc

After reading the story of "Whatever Next' by Jill Murphy the children showed great interest in plants and space. Some of the things the wanted to find out during our 'talking tubs' were as follows;

"What is it like in space?"

"What are the planets called?"

"I want to learn about aliens!"

"Can we build a rocket?"

...and so off we went to learn more...
