Welcome to Year 3. 

In the picture above we are watching 'Newsround' on our interactive board. Year 3 watch Newsround daily which introduces the children to current news articles and keeps them up-to-date with what is happening throughout our world.




 In our French lessons we have been learning how to say 'Hello' , 'Goodbye' , and how to count to ten. 

The children have had great fun learning these words and some simple phrases which are shown below:

 "Au revior"  "Au revoir"

"Goodbye"   "Goodbye"


"Comment t'appelles - tu?"

"What's your name?"


 "Je m'appelle ..."

"My name is..."


"Comment ca va ?"

"How are you ?"


"Bien, merci, et toi ?"

"Good thanks, and you"


"Bonjour Madame"  

"Hello" - to a lady.


"Bonjour Monsiour"

"Hello" - to a man.


The children have also been writing down first conversations in French.




We have been learning how to count to ten in French, and most of the class will now confidently stand and count in French in our classroom.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.


Physical Education.

Every week the children in year 3 have two P.E. lessons. At Banks St Stephens school,  all classes are taught a P.E. lesson on a Friday by a qualified coach through a West Lancs Scheme. At the end of each half term the children are assessed on various criteria which they have been taught by the coaches during that half term. 

 The first half term of the 2017-2018 school year, we had a Gymnastic coach.




For their assessment the children had to devise their own routine which consisted of a balance, travel, jump, balance and roll in that  order.  The coach then awarded points for each area.

Above are the children who the coach wanted to highlight for trying very hard during their routine.

 Our other P.E. lesson which is currently on a Tuesday is also taken by a qualified coach from 'West Lancs Sports Partnership' and is part of the 'Emotional Health and Wellbeing 'scheme, for the first term of 2017/2018.





We finshed our topic on Rock and Roll with an explosive session where we turned our dormant volcanoes into live, magma spilling monsters. We used bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and food colouring to create the lava.

Well done Year three!





 We found out about how fossils were made and then recreated the effect using air drying clay and model dinosaurs.


 Building Stonehenge.




We made our own Stonehenge models and tried to think of how it had been made thousands of years ago. It was started just after the end of the Stone Age. We found it difficult enough balancing wooden bricks never mind those huge 25 tonne Sarsen stones. 


Remembrance Day.

On Thursday 9th November, Year 3 prepared and presented an assembly on Remembrance Day for the whole school and their parents. Our new vicar,  Reverand Rebecca also joined us alongside Mr Yardley, St Stephen's church Warden for this special Assembly.



Year 3 also wrote their own class prayer.


A Prayer for Peace.

Dear God,

Please stop wars happening.

Help those who have been injured, and help us to remember them and their families.

Please protect our soldiers and all soldiers who may be involved in wars.

Give us peace in our world.



Mr Yardley was so impressed with our assembly and our class prayer that he read it during St Stephens church Rememberance Service on Sunday 12th November.

We were all really proud to be part of this service too .
